While much attention and funding has been directed towards testing pay-for-performance schemes in low- and middle-income countries, recent work suggests that nonfinancial incentives may also hold promise to close the "know-do gap" so commonly observed among health care providers. During this brownbag seminar, Ken Leonard and Jishnu Das will present their work on nonfinancial incentives for performance in India and Tanzania, and speculate on possible policy implications. Discussant Benjamin Loevinsohn will share his views on the compatibility of financial and nonfinancial incentives, and suggest directions for policy and research.
The presentation will draw from Leonard's recent paper with J. Michelle Brock and Andreas Lange, Generosity Norms and Intrinsic Motivation in Health Care Provision: Evidence from the Laboratory and Field.
