January 31, 2008
On January 31, 2008, Global Witness was honored as the 2007 winner of the Commitment to Development Ideas in Action Award, sponsored jointly by the Center for Global Development (CGD) and Foreign Policy magazine. Global Witness, a British NGO, has crusaded to stop the plunder of rain forests in Cambodia and Burma, driven the call for greater transparency within the extractive industries and helped to bring the problem of conflict diamonds in Africa to the world's attention.
Nancy Birdsall, President of the Center for Global Development and Moisés Naím, Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Policy magazine, presented Global Witness Founding Directors Patrick Alley and Simon Taylor with the Commitment to Development Ideas in Action Award to recognize and honor their achievements and tireless work.
