Cash on Delivery Aid: Interview with Nancy Birdsall

COD AidIn this week's Global Prosperity Wonkcast, CGD president Nancy Birdsall explains a proposal for Cash on Delivery Aid, which would pay developing countries for incremental progress toward an agreed goal without specifying how the goal should be achieved. For example, a donor would pay $200 for each additional child who finishes primary school and takes a test. "We have to create a system in which outside resources actually help the developing-country governments find out what works in their particular setting," says Birdsall.

Desmond Bermingham

Desmond Bermingham has worked in the education sector as a teacher, teacher trainer, and senior education adviser in the UK and globally for over 20 years and is currently a visiting fellow at the Center for Global Development, where he is conducting research on aid effectiveness and education. As part of his research he is working on a book regarding the lessons learned from his previous five years as the Head of the Education for All–Fast Track Initiative (FTI) Secretariat at the World Bank.
