Education: Milan holds a B.A. in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.A. and M.Phil in political science from Columbia University.
Milan Vaishnav is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Global Development and a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University in New York. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute (GPPI) at Georgetown University.
His research agenda covers issues such as illicit election finance, corruption, criminality, distributive politics, and natural resource rents, with a focus on India. One of his ongoing major projects examines the role of money and serious criminality in Indian electoral politics and their impact on democratic accountability. He is also engaged in research on illicit sources of election finance; election finance and its connection to development policy; and the contingent effects of natural resource wealth on democracy and governance. At CGD, he will also be working on the Center's initiative on the U.S. Development Strategy in Pakistan as well as new research on illicit financial flows and development.
Vaishnav holds a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. and M.Phil in Political Science from Columbia. Prior to Columbia, he has worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Center for Global Development.
