James A. Harmon

James A. Harmon is the Chairman of Harmon & Co. LLC, a financial advisory firm organized in 2001 to advise countries and companies principally in the developing world. In November 2004, Mr. Harmon was elected Chairman of the Board of the World Resources Institute (WRI). Located in Washington, DC, WRI is a global policy and research institution. In 2002, Harmon & Co. established a strategic partnership with the Rothschild Group, the pre-eminent global corporate advisory firm. Mr. Harmon serves as a Senior Advisor to Rothschild.

Mr. Harmon served as the Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) until June 1, 2001. Nominated to a four-year term by President Clinton, Mr. Harmon was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in June 1997. Prior to joining the Clinton Administration, Mr. Harmon spent 35 years as an investment banker in New York City. Those years were spent at Wertheim & Co., an international investment bank that partnered with Schroders (plc) (U.K.) to form Wertheim Schroder & Co. in 1986. Mr. Harmon served as Chairman and CEO for ten years before leaving the firm in 1997.

Mr. Harmon is a member of the Board of Directors of Questar Corporation, an integrated gas exploration, distribution and pipeline company. He is also a member of the board of the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, Africare, and the Center for Global Development. Mr. Harmon is a member of the J.E. Robert Cos. Global Advisory Board and a member of the International Advisory Board of Alfa Capital. He is a Trustee Emeritus of Brown University and Barnard College and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Mr. Harmon received a B.A. in English Literature from Brown University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Wharton Graduate School, University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Harmon is married to Jane Theaman Harmon, a theatrical producer in New York City and is the father of three children.
