On August 1, 2006, Ghana signed a five-year, $547 million anti-poverty compact with the MCC. Ghana's compact focuses on agriculture, rural development, and transportation infrastructure. Ghana's $547 million compact will closeout on February 16, 2012. In January 2011, the MCC board selected Ghana as eligible to apply for a second compact. MCA StatusGhana's compact entered-into-force on February 16, 2007. Ghana's compact is aimed at reducing poverty by raising farmer incomes through private sector-led and agribusiness development. MCC investments are intended to increase the production and productivity of high-value cash and food staple crops in some of the poorest regions and to enhance the competitiveness of Ghana’s agricultural products in regional and international markets. In early 2009, the compact was modified to better respond to farmer demand for services and increased project costs. Country CompactGhana MCC compact Ghana’s compact is tied closely to the 2003 version of its Poverty Reduction Strategy. The PRSP, like the compact, focuses broadly on agriculture, rural development, access to services, and private sector development. Country EligibilityIn the FY2011 selection process, Ghana scored above the median on all six Ruling Justly indicators, all five Investing in People indicators, and three of six Economic Freedom indicators. Ghana is a low income country (LIC).
