On July 28, 2008, the MCC signed a five-year, $305 million compact with Namibia. The compact focuses on education (general education, vocational and skills education, access to textbooks and finaning expansion), tourism for the Etosha National Park and ecotourism, and an agriculture component (land tenure, livestock, and indigenous natural products promotion).

MCA Status

Namibia's compact entered-into-force on September 16, 2009.  The compact aims to improve the quality of education and training for underserved populations, and attempts to capitalize on Namibia’s comparative advantages (e.g., large areas of semi-arid communal land suitable for livestock, and diverse wildlife and unique landscapes ideal for ecotourism) to increase the incomes of poor Namibians in the northern areas of the country.
