Kenya

On March 23, 2007 Kenya and the MCC signed a two-year, $12.7 million threshold program aimed at reducing public sector corruption by overhauling the public procurement system, with a specific concentration on health care procurements throughout the supply chain.  A new public financial management reform strategy, which includes a public procurement component, was implemented by the government of Kenya and supported by a coordinated group of donors to reduce opportunities for corruption.  The Kenya threshold program supported Kenya’s broader reform efforts and complemented other donor efforts.  The program concluded in December 2010.  Kenya was originally selected for the threshold program in FY2005.  Learn more about the MCC's threshold program.

Country Eligibility

In the FY2011 selection process, Kenya scored above the median on four of six Ruling Justly indicators (failing the control of corruption hard hurdle), one of five Investing in People indicators, and five of six Economic Freedom indicators. Kenya is a low income country (LIC).
