On March 29, 2007 Uganda and the MCC signed a two-year, $10.4 million threshold program focused on decreasing public-sector corruption, particularly in public procurement. While the government of Uganda had already made significant progress towards creating a legal and institutional framework required to reduce corruption, public-sector corruption remained pervasive. The threshold program worked to combat corruption by improving public procurement, audit, and financial management practices. Additionally, the program helped build capacity to allow for more effective follow-up of reported malpractice and strengthened the role of civil society in monitoring corruption. The program concluded on December 31, 2009. Uganda was originally selected for the threshold program in FY2005. Learn more about the MCC's threshold program.
