Senegal, eligible for the MCA each year since its inception in 2004, was again selected as eligible in the 2007 and 2008 selection rounds. MCA StatusSenegal has submitted a compact proposal to the MCC, and on July 20, 2005 the MCC and Senegal signed a $6.5 million grant agreement to assist Senegal in further developing its compact. Country EligibilityIn the FY 2008 selection process, Senegal scored above the median on all six "ruling justly" indicators, three of five "investing in people" indicators, and three of six "economic freedom" indicators. Senegal was again selected as eligible despite not passing the “investing in people” category. Other U.S. PoliciesDevelopment Assistance: USAID requested $24.6 million for FY 2006 to finance programs in Senegal. Over half of this total, to come from the Child Survival and Health Programs Fund, is dedicated to enhancing the provision of quality, decentralized health services.
