Tanzania was deemed eligible for the MCA in the 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 selection rounds. It was previously designated as a Threshold country in the 2004 and 2005 selection rounds. MCA StatusMCC signed a $698 million compact with Tanzania on February 17, 2008. The compact focuses on transportation (rehabilitation of roads and an airport), the energy sector to increase the coverage and reliability of electricity for business and domestic use, and the water sector to increase the availability and reliability of potable water. Tanzania was deemed eligible for threshold program funding in 2004 and 2005. In the 2006 and 2007 selection rounds Tanzania became eligible for compact funding, though Tanzania has not yet submitted a proposal to the MCC. On May 3, 2006, the MCC and Tanzania signed a 2 year, $11.15 million Threshold Program agreement which aimed to reduce corruption, strengthen good governance through rule of law initiatives, and increase oversight of public procurement. On October 4, 2007 the MCC and Tanzania signed a $9.8 million pre-compact grant to begin feasibility studies and environmental assessments.
