Carter Center
The Carter Center has led the international effort to eradicate guinea worm, with close collaboration with UNICEF, the CDC, and the WHO. The Carter Center has worked directly with and through the ministries of health in each endemic country to support national eradication efforts, and has provided advocacy, supplies, and technical and financial assistance. Since the start of the campaign in 1986, disease prevalence has dropped 99 percent and the number of cases has fallen from 3.5 million to less than 35,000.
