The Clark Foundation contributed significant financial support to the fight against trachoma in Morocco. In partnership with Pfizer Inc., the International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) was created, where 3.5 million doses were distributed in the first quarter of 2004 alone. Widespread treatment - in combination with health education, surgery and environmental change - led to a 90 percent reduction in the incidence of trachoma among children aged 10 since 1997. Elimination efforts have been extended beyond Morocco to 11 other countries, representing one-quarter of the global burden of trachoma.
