CGD’s work in innovation for development investigates how to create incentives to catalyze technology creation, testing, and adoption. Research encompasses many fields including better management of cash transfers, social marketing, intellectual property rights, research institutions, prizes, and advance market commitments. A central role for monitoring and evaluation also helps to address the common mistake of financing the wrong technology, or advocating for its use in areas and with people where it just will not work. Senior fellow Charles Kenny heads a major portion of CGD’s innovation research.
