Will Obama Disappoint Africa? (National Journal)

March 16, 2009

The National Journal quotes CGD senior fellow Todd Moss, research fellow Michael Clemens, and visiting fellow James Habyarimana on on Obama's Africa policy.

From the article:

"That largesse may get a second look amid record U.S. budget deficits (recall that when he was pressed last fall on which of Obama’s commitments might have to be trimmed in light of the economic crisis, vice presidential nominee Joe Biden singled out the promise to double foreign aid.) “Historically we’ve seen that whenever budgets get tight, foreign aid is an easy target,” says Todd Moss, a deputy assistant secretary of State in the Bureau of African Affairs during the Bush administration."
