World Bank Rebuffs Experts’ Call for Carbon Accounting

At a recent CGD consultation on the World Bank’s draft climate strategy, climate policy experts urged the bank to begin calculating the social and environmental costs of the carbon emissions from the projects it funds. Bank officials replied that the calculations were too difficult and politically sensitive. The strategy will be presented to the bank’s member countries next month.
