IAVI Welcomes Proposals For Advance Market Commitments

May 04, 2005
The International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) has published a policy statement welcoming the proposal for an advance market commitment.
To develop and ensure widespread use of a preventive AIDS vaccine, governments and companies around the globe will have to mobilize financial resources and scientific talent on an unprecedented scale. This will be best achieved through a combination of "push" and "pull" measures and high-level political support. An advance purchase commitment (APC) for an AIDS vaccine would make up a vital component of the larger set of policy actions that must be taken in order to deliver AIDS vaccines and other preventive technologies that can end the AIDS pandemic.
