This is Vaccination Week in the Americas, under the auspices of The Pan American Health Organization, PAHO. This is a regional initiative that aims to strengthen vaccination programs and reach more than 44 million children and adults throughout the Americas with immunizations.
As part of the publicity surrounding the week, Ciro A. de Quadros, director of international programs at the Albert B. Sabin Vaccine Institute, and John R. Wecker, director of the Rotavirus Vaccine Program, an affiliate of PATH, have co-written an editorial article on the importance of all vaccines, including the need for rotavirus vaccines.
Last week, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, completed a $7.5 billion replenishment to fund its work on immunization in the world’s poorest countries between now and 2020. Gavi’s next step is to ensure that the money is used as effectively as possible to save lives and improve health.
