About the event
The COVID-19 pandemic has had severe economic consequences across Africa. Even as Africa is still in the middle of the outbreak, some have started to look at what recovery might look like beyond the pandemic. Sub-Saharan Africa's economy is on course to contract by 2.8% in 2020, the deepest contraction on record. Agricultural commodity exporters, commodity importing economies, countries that rely on tourism, and industrial commodity exporters will all be hard hit. During this event, we will discuss the various economic and health impacts of COVID-19 across different regions in Africa, the responses we have seen thus far, and the way forward. The discussion will focus on economic growth and development in Africa beyond COVID-19. The speakers will examine the debt implications of recovery, digitalization of the economy, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
