Refugee Children and Social Exclusion: Experimental Evidence from Turkey

There are 26 million refugees worldwide, of whom half are children, and little rigorous evidence exists on what works to aid integration. Turkey is host to 1 million Syrian child refugees. Many face bullying, violence, and social exclusion in schools.

CGD is delighted to host Ceren Baysan from the University of Essex who will present preliminary findings from a randomized evaluation of a curriculum reform designed to help Turkish students better empathise with Syrian refugees. Salim Salamah will provide reflections from the perspective of the DFID education research team, and personal reflections as a Syrian himself.

Presenter:
Ceren Baysan, Assistant Professor, University of Essex

Discussant:
Salim Salamah, DFID Education Research Team

Chair:
Lee Crawfurd, Senior Research Associate, Center for Global Development

Places are limited, so please confirm your attendance by registering here by Monday, 18 November and direct any questions to Lindsay Ellis at lellis@cgdev.org or Hanna Petros at hpetros@cgdev.org.
