Dr. Brad Wong is the Founder and President of Mettalytics, an affiliated researcher at the University of Bergen’s Centre for Ethics and Priority Setting in Health and the Chief Economist of the Seva Foundation. A key focus of Wong’s research is identifying and making the economic case for ‘best buys’ in global health and development. As part of this work, Wong has published numerous technical reports and peer-reviewed economic evaluations across a variety of sectors including agriculture, education, gender, nutrition, water and sanitation, poverty, trade, and global health. He has also developed approaches and guidance documents for conducting cross-sectoral priority setting exercises.
Wong’s research has been used to assist stakeholders to prioritize resources for greatest impact, to make investment cases for increased spending, and to identify cost-effective approaches to solving development issues. He has advised and collaborated with the Government of Timor Leste, the Malawian National Planning Commission, the Ghanaian National Development Planning Commission, the Government of Haiti, and the Government of India’s think tank, NITI Aayog, among others.
Wong is the Co-lead editor of Disease Control Priorities 4, Volume 3, which seeks to identify interventions implemented outside the healthcare sector that deliver the largest net improvements in health and welfare. He is also part of the presenting faculty for Harvard’s executive education course, Benefit-Cost Analysis: Valuing Life and Health. Wong was previously the Chief Economist of the Copenhagen Consensus Center.
