Vageesh Jain is a public health physician in training, currently working with Public Health England on the health protection response to COVID-19. He is also an NIHR academic clinical fellow at the Institute for Global Health at UCL. Prior to entering public health, he worked as a junior doctor in a range of specialities including acute medicine and infectious diseases.
Jain has worked on a range of public health issues with various local, national and international organizations. His main interests lie in priority-setting in healthcare, health systems strengthening and global health security. He has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals, most recently focussing on health taxes. He was awarded the Bennett Prospect Prize 2019/20 from the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, for his proposal on a UK Food and Beverage Industry Levy (FBIL).
Jain holds a medical degree and a master’s in public health from King’s College London, where he was awarded the prize for the highest marks in his public health cohort.
