The Center for Global Development, an independent, nonpartisan think tank based in Washington, DC and with a CGD Europe office in London, seeks an Institutional Advancement Assistant to support all strategic and functional aspects of CGD’s fundraising activities. As a member of the Institutional Advancement team, overall responsibilities include assisting with prospect research, grant writing and reporting, event organizing, and donor relationship management, including administrative support, across all areas of the Center’s work to help the organization meet its annual fundraising objectives. This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic and dedicated individual to have a significant impact on CGD’s trajectory and in the field of international economic development.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with donor stewardship efforts by carrying out activities associated with foundation, bilateral, corporate, and individual donor relationship management, including: gift processing, arranging calls and meetings, benefits fulfillment tracking, and donor correspondence over phone and email, etc.;
  • Assist with drafting narrative reports and proposals as well as direct funding requests that align with CGD funding and institutional priorities;
  • Assist with tracking, coordinating, and reporting on production of research outputs and outreach;
  • Conduct prospect research in communication with senior management to help develop funding pipelines for CGD work streams and projects, and help craft solicitations for those prospects;
  • Maintain and manage electronic and hard filing systems, including CGD’s Salesforce donor tracking system and contacts database, and public donor listings on CGD’s website and in CGD’s annual reports;
  • Assist in coordination, production, and implementation of in-house fundraising mailings;
  • Assist with communications and marketing initiatives, including CGD’s funding transparency efforts;
  • Lead with arranging meetings, calls, and managing the team’s calendars;
  • Support the entire IA team through preparing agendas, documents for meetings, and other relevant tasks; and
  • Assist in fundraising event planning and implementation, serving as an ambassador to CGD at various private and public events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; 1-2 years of experience in fundraising, event planning, and non-profit management a plus;
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, office and phone experience, and customer service orientation required;
  • Superb interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and etiquette;
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required, Salesforce experience desirable, and ability to quickly learn and have a high level of comfort with new technology systems a plus; An eye for and an interest in marketing, nonprofit management, and business development;
  • Poise, confidence, self-motivated, collaborative, outstanding time management skills and hardworking;
  • Excellent written English usage, grammar, and punctuation;
  • Friendly and flexible team player attitude; a willingness to pitch into all projects and tasks is a must;
  • Knowledge and commitment to CGD mission, vision, and values.
