Dear Friends,
Ideas to action. This motto is at the core of our work at the Center for Global Development (CGD), where we bring thoughtful and rigorous economic analysis to the interaction between developing countries and the international community – governments, international organizations, private corporations, financial institutions, civil society, and academia. Improving the policies and practices that govern these interactions can expand human opportunities and improve lives everywhere.
By pairing research with action, CGD goes beyond contributing to knowledge about development. We design and promote practical policy innovations in areas such as international finance, refugee flows, migration, health, and education, as well as the sharing of technology and ideas.
Over the past few months at the Center, we have considered how the reality of shifting political priorities and growing global concerns will frame our work moving forward. The fact is, our commitment to evidence as a critical tool for effective policy design is now even more salient. In the first quarter of 2017, our researchers have: offered new responses to the international refugee crises; framed migration as a tool for disaster recovery; provided timely reactions and analyses to the Trump Administration’s first 100 days, impending foreign assistance budgets cuts, and executive orders; and proposed performance-based payments for tropical forest preservation.
The CGD Society, the Center’s valued group of individual donors, provides generous support that is essential to our ability to remain independent, influential, and responsive to rapidly evolving circumstances that can mean life and death, wealth and poverty to developing nations.
This year, we have expanded engagement opportunities for CGD Society members:
- $150 – weekly CGD newsletter; premier event invitations; recognition on CGD’s website; quarterly President’s update
- $500 – all benefits at the $150 level; complimentary copies of CGD published books
- $1,000-$4,999 – all benefits at the $500 level; acknowledgement in CGD’s annual report; invitation to a private CGD event and reception and listing as an event sponsor
- $5,000 and up – Partners Council benefits
Please consider joining the 2017 CGD Society or renewing your membership today.
I hope you will join me this year in CGD’s dedication to reducing poverty and making the world a more prosperous, just, and safer place for us all—a goal that has never been more important, or more urgent.
With sincere gratitude,
Masood Ahmed
President
Center for Global Development
