CGD has moved to new green premises on the third floor of the SEIU building at 1800 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, just up the road from our previous offices. The new space, which the U.S. Green Building Council upgraded and then outgrew, brings together our entire staff, which had been split between our main offices and an annex on Dupont Circle.
The new offices are LEED-certified Platinum, the highest level of certification for environmentally friendly construction and design. The environmentally friendly features include reduced water usage, operable windows, automatically dimmed lights, and natural light in 93 percent of the office space. A green roof that slows runoff and reduces urban heat offers great views of adjacent Dupont Circle.
We are very excited about the new space—and to welcome you to future on-site events. The building has a shared, two-story conference facility, where many CGD events will take place, and our offices include several conference rooms to accommodate meetings of various sizes. One change may take a little getting used to: security is tighter—all visitors must show an ID and sign in before entering the building.
Notwithstanding this 21st-century inconvenience, we hope that you’ll like the new space as much as we do. Watch for your invitation to a future CGD on-site event. If you are not already receiving CGD event invitations you can sign up here or, if you already receive a CGD newsletter, modify your existing subscription preferences to add events. We look forward to welcoming you on your next visit!
Looking Forward and Taking Stock
As we look forward to our future in 1800 Mass. Ave., we also invite you to take a look at the achievements of our last year headquartered at 1800 Mass. Our 2008 Annual Report is now available and tracks the highlights of a busy and productive year. Grappling with a global food-price crisis and the subsequent financial crash, setting an agenda to address the needs of adolescent girls, identifying rich-world policy changes to spur economic growth in Africa, recommending how to make increased global health funding more effective, finding innovative ways to deliver aid and ensure its good use, keeping global development on the agenda as the United States elected new leaders—these are just a few of CGD’s achievements last year.
