Lapp Sees Higher Commodity Prices Passed on to Consumers (Bloomberg)

February 15, 2011

Senior fellow Kim Elliot was interviewed by Bloomberg News regarding the food crisis.

From the Interview:

Ms. Elliott, our guest was just on the phone with me from Nairobi, and he talked about issues of finance. Talk to us about the world of that place in this food insecurity crisis we are seeing around the world.

Kim: Well, you have both the short run and long run elements to the food security crisis. Most of what your last guest was talking about, except for the world food program, were the long run investments we need to ensure we have enough food going forward with growing populations, growing income, in growing demand. You have sharply higher prices and rapidly rising prices and you have poor people who are not farmers who are not growing for their own assistance in their own use and they suddenly find that they cannot afford to buy food.
