Migrants Count: Five Steps Toward Better Migration Data

Crummy statistics on global migration make it tough to craft policies that help poor people. Yet better data could be gathered easily—by adding a few questions to each national census, for example—according to a new report by a CGD blue-ribbon commission. CGD research fellow Michael Clemens, who organized the commission, has prepared a Migration Data Report Card that grades countries based upon how well they meet the commission's first recommendation.
