However, there is something more that the United States should do: It should provide Pakistani textile and apparel producers with preferential access to the U.S. market, something it has done for dozens of other countries. Currently, imports of textile and apparel products from Pakistan represent less than 4 percent of the U.S. market, and yet they are taxed at nearly three times the average U.S. rate.
