One of the most controversial subjects in global health is the topic of user fees for health services and products. In a new blog, CGD senior fellow Mead Over sums up the controversy over user fees as a source of health financing and points to new research that suggests charging a small fee for home water purification in Zambia might actually increase use compared to distributing the same solution for free. He calls for more detailed studies to inform the debate on user fees for health care and clarify the implications for policymakers in developing countries.
