A major objective of the Global Health Policy Research Network Conference was to develop near- and mid-term goals of the GHPRN policy research and dissemination agenda. To meet this objective, the conference featured a professionally facilitated session on the afternoon of September 29.
Session Outputs
Read the complete 2005 Agenda-Setting Session Results. Highlights from the document include:
- Prioritized research topics – both near-term (0-2 years) and mid-term (2-5 years) – for each breakout session.
- A list of 10 "must-do" topics and additional detail about each of these highest-priority topics
Purpose of the Session
The purpose of this session was to collect expert input into GHPRN’s future agenda for policy research. The session focused on:
- major global health finance and policy challenges that impede progress toward better health (and consequently economic development) in the world’s poorest countries
- tractable questions for which there are new ideas, methods, funding mechanisms, or regulatory changes that could produce a material improvement, relaxing one or more of the major health finance and policy challenges
- developing recommendations for an audience of donors, technical agencies, international financial institutions and the advocacy groups that try to influence them
Workshop Process
Conference attendees actively participated in brainstorming and analysis sessions designed to solicit input from all participants as efficiently as possible. Facilitators helped guide discussions, allowing the participants to focus on identifying potential research topics and relative priorities. The participants divided into three breakout sessions:
- Affordable, reliable supply of good health products
- Scaled-up services within sustainable health systems
- Roles of global institutions
The Center thanks all who participated in the session and offered their good ideas. The GHPRN Steering Committee will carefully consider these outputs when making recommendations about future GHPRN research activities.
