Do World Bank Conservation and Fossil Fuel Investments Cancel Out?

Why is the World Bank putting money into protecting tiger populations while it funds coal-fired power plants that will contribute to climate-related habitat destruction? My colleagues Vijaya Ramachandran and Robin Kraft look at the bank's new conservation effort in light of its continued fossil fuels work in Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright: The World Bank Undermines Own Conservation Efforts With Fossil Fuel Projects.

US Gas Too Cheap For Our Own Good?

Is gas still cheap in the US? Four dollar gas has caused many Americans to reconsider their transportation choices, but they're still only paying what Europeans were paying a decade ago. Kevin Ummel argues that gas in the US still costs well below its "true" social cost in Earth to America: The Price of Gasoline Isn't Too High, It's Too Low.

My thanks to Robin Kraft for his help in preparing this letter.

Best wishes,

The San Luis Obispo plants are expected to be completed in 2013.
