OF NOTE THIS WEEK

The long-awaited strategy document for the Global Health Initiative was released yesterday. This updated version expands on the administration's comprehensive and whole-of-government approach to global health. The strategy, which is updated from the previously released consultation document, has made some shifts in the language, most notably moving from "implementing" a women and girls centered approach to a "focus" on women and girls. Certain numerical targets, like saving 1.3 million lives by reducing tuberculosis prevalence by 50%, were removed. Numerical targets for maternal and child health are also missing from the update strategy document.

Also yesterday, Lois Quam, the newly appointed head of the GHI, spoke for the first time in her capacity as Executive Director at a town hall forum hosted by the Kaiser Family Foundation. A recording of that discussion is available here.
