Research Papers
A series of research papers have been commissioned by the Drug Resistance Working Group as inputs to their analysis and recommendations. The first of these is a concept paper on Drug Resistance as a Global Health Policy Priority, which serves as an introduction to the issue from a global policy perspective, presenting some important considerations for policymakers, and proposing a process of analysis and dialogue to further refine those considerations into recommendations for action.
Other papers that have been completed are:
- A “characterization” paper, outlining the magnitude of drug resistance against AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other bacterial infections; mapping the health systems, behavioral and drug technology drivers of resistance under different conditions; and identifying avenues for further exploration.
- A summary of existing policies regarding agricultural and veterinary use of antibiotics in developed countries, the existing evidence about human health impacts of such antibiotic use, and to the extent possible, the magnitude of agricultural antibiotic use in developing countries.
- A CGD working paper analyzing how changes in supply-chain business practices could help fix the misaligned incentives that hinder worldwide access to high-quality medical goods.
Forthcoming papers include:
- An assessment of the availability, access and use of information, which identifies key gaps and/or opportunities for collaborative action to improve data on resistance, morbidity, drug use, and drug quality.
These and other materials will be posted as available.
These research papers include but are not limited to CGD Working Papers
