OF NOTE THIS WEEK

The 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP), ends today in Bali, Indonesia. The Congress, which opened on Sunday, gathered experts from 65 nations and called for a stronger commitment to universal access, the AFP reports. Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who opened the event, stated that only 25 percent of the 1.7 million people with HIV/AIDS in the Asia-Pacific region are receiving the treatment they need.

  • The Global Fund awards 37.9M to Zimbabwe to fight HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The funds will be used over a 6 month period and will be disbursed through the United Nations Development Programme
  • PEPFAR signs a Partnership Framework with Angola during a visit to the country by Secretary Clinton
