OF NOTE THIS WEEK
African health ministers meeting at the WHO's Regional Committee for Africa adopted four resolutions to improve the continent's response to HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria, the Nigeria Guardian reports. The ministers urged countries to establish drug resistance and efficacy monitoring systems, strengthen procurement and management of supplies, and develop and implement policies and strategies to improve diagnosis and effective early treatment. In addition, they addressed national capacities for disease surveillance and response and called on countries to assess existing infrastructure and human capacity and set up "centers of excellence."
