OF NOTE THIS WEEK

President Obama released his FY2012 budget request on Monday of this week proposing $47 billion in core funding for the State Department and USAID, a 1% increase from 2010 enacted funding levels, the White House's Office of Management and Budget states. In his budget, the President requested $7.2 billion for PEPFAR, including more than $5.6 billion for bilateral HIV/AIDS programs, $1.3 billion for the Global Fund, and $254 million for bilateral TB programs. See here for an updated fact sheet on PEPFAR funding, including FY2012 requests. While Obama's proposed FY2012 budget represents a slight increase in funding levels for PEPFAR, a continuing resolution to fund the remainder of FY2011 threatens to cut $11.7 billion, or 21%, from the President's 2011 budget request for the State Department, USAID, and other foreign operations.
