Debating the Rainforest - Frances Seymour

Introduction

On September 18^th, 2014, CGD Senior Fellow Frances Seymour moderated a panel at a conference in Oslo to commemorate the 25^th anniversary of the Rainforest Foundation – Norway.  The session, entitled “Debating the rainforest,” was designed to facilitate a discussion among different stakeholders.  Panelists included William Ambrose of the Norges Bank Investment Management, Per Fredrik Pharo of the Government of Norway’s International Forests and Climate Initiative, Hege Ragnhildstveit of the Rainforest Foundation Norway,  Adriana Ramos of Instituto Socioambiental, Brazil, Jeremy Goon of Wilmar International, Singapore, and Guilherme Narciso de Lacerda of BNDES, Brazil.  Frances poses an opening question to each panelist, and then facilitates a discussion among them regarding the respective roles of governments, private companies, financiers, and civil society in protecting forests.
