The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, DC seeks a Program Assistant to support the forest-climate change team.  The CGD forest-climate change team is launching a program to support a major increase in global financial flows and incentives for forest conservation and to promote results-based approaches to REDD+.  The program seeks to highlight the urgency of forest conservation and REDD+ as key priorities in the context of the overall climate agenda. The Program Assistant’s role is to fulfill a broad array of support functions and occasional research assistance.

Responsibilities:

Team support and organization:

  • Manage team calendar and data bases of documents and contacts
  • Organize and coordinate various internal and external meetings
  • Liaise with internal and external colleagues, especially the CGD communications team

Management of workflow for key project outputs:

  • Manage and track the commissioning of background papers for a major report on forests and climate change
  • Manage the coordination of meetings and commissioning of background papers for the Working Group on Payment-for-Performance for forests, handle logistical and travel arrangements for meeting participants
  • Help to organize and prioritize senior staff workflow
  • Provide administrative support to Senior Fellows

Research support

  • Carry out literature reviews and conduct background research Contribute to drafting and editing briefs, blogs, communications and reports
  • Provide other research, writing and editing support for various reports, documents and web content related with the project
  • Perform other duties as necessary

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 1-2  years of professional experience, preferably in an administrative support role in a not-for-profit policy setting
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Excellent proficiency in writing
  • Knowledge of climate change and REDD+ helpful though not strictly necessary
  • Ability to work effectively and quickly under pressure and to prioritize work between different supervisors
  • Flexibility and sense of humor

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in developing countries, knowledge of project-related issues, and/or prior experience interacting with important organizational constituencies.
