John Osterman was the Director of Digital Communications at the Center for Global Development from 2008 to 2016. He oversaw the communication team's work on publications, multimedia, and online and email engagement, and worked with numerous vendors and freelancers on the editing, design, layout, and production of CGD's print and interactive products. He focused on presenting more of the center's publications in web-native formats beyond the PDF to better reach and engage with readers across platforms and devices. A native of the metropolitan area, Osterman holds an MA in anthropology from the University of Virginia and a BA from the University of Mary Washington. Before his graduate studies, he was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania and worked in mid-Atlantic archaeology.
