A European Perspective on the Future of Global AIDS Programs:A Conversation with Five AIDS Ambassadors

Center for Global Development and Center for Strategic and International Studies co-hosted this event, with five European AIDS ambassadors discussing lessons learned from global AIDS programs, and opportunities and challenges for European-U.S. collaboration. After their opening presentations, the ambassadors joined audience members in breakout groups on:

  • HIV prevention;
  • Gender and HIV/AIDS;
  • Donor harmonization and coordination;
  • Intellectual property and access to medicines

The morning closed with a plenary session featuring highlights from the breakout sessions and a lively concluding discussion. The event included:

  • Paul Bekkers(AIDS Ambassador, Netherlands)
  • Lennarth Hjelmaker (AIDS Ambassador, Sweden)
  • Michel Kazatchkine (AIDS Ambassador, France)
  • Michel Lastschenko (AIDS Ambassador, Belgium)
  • Sigrun Mogedal (AIDS Ambassador, Norway)

The event was moderated by Nandini Oomman, CGD senior program associate and project director for the HIV/AIDS Monitor Initiative
