The weaknesses of internationally comparable data on government revenues have long held back advances in both research and policymaking. Now the International Centre for Tax and Development, a multi-disciplinary global research centre focused on effective taxation for development and funded by DFID and NORAD, is launching a new cross-country dataset on government revenues. The Government Revenue Dataset was created by a team at ICTD. It offers the potential for a substantially stronger policy research base in this important area, due both to its broader coverage (of lower-income countries in particular) and the greater consistency and international comparability of the series, including a more consistent approach to natural resource revenues.
The event will include a presentation of the dataset, and the first set of research papers to make use of it, and finish with a panel discussion of the prospects and strategies for improving the quality of data over the long-term. Click here for a preliminary agenda, while the beta version of the dataset can be accessed here, and the working papers can be accessed here for review in advance of the meeting.
Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in attending. There is also an option to participate via video conference.
