Han Sheng Chia is an Advancing Evidence in Policy Fellow, where his work focuses on improving the use of evidence in U.S. foreign aid and development policy.
He was previously Vice President of Innovation at GiveDirectly where he led investments to achieve step function change in how the organization delivered cash transfers. In his role, he designed programs and advised governments on how to utilize big data technologies in social protection programs. He was also GiveDirectly’s first Humanitarian Director, where his teams led the delivery of more than $200M in cash transfers to half a million people during the COVID-19 pandemic and other natural disasters.
Han Sheng is affiliated with UC Berkeley’s Global Policy Lab which brings cutting edge research and technology out of the ivory tower into the hands of decision makers. He is a graduate of Brown University and regularly lectures at the Watson Institute.
