CGD senior fellow Vijaya Ramachandran and her co-authors draw on business surveys across 29 African countries to identify key problems and propose practical solutions in a new CGD book, Africa’s Private Sector: What’s Wrong with the Business Environment and What to Do About It. Among the findings: half of African businesses now lack reliable electricity, but the continent could leapfrog fossil fuels to become the Saudi Arabia of renewable energy, enabling businesses to become more competitive in the global economy.
