We believe that mobility is the key to economic development. In a world of demographic imbalances and skill shortages, the contributions of migrants and refugees are needed more than ever. But it is also a world of growing political tensions and public debate surrounding the role and impact of mobility. CGD’s Migration and Displacement team operates independently and based on empirical analysis, developing the big ideas and workable policies that maximize the benefits of mobility to migrants themselves, their families, and the countries where they come from and go to.

Program Goals

We are working towards two long-term outcomes: (1) Ensure migration contributes to economic development in countries of origin and destination; and (2) Promote improved and sustainable refugee livelihoods in hosting countries.
