Gleneagles Aid Commitments: What is the IMF Projecting?

Did IMF aid projections change after G8 leaders pledged in 2005 to double aid to Africa by 2010? Not much. A new CGD working paper finds that only two out of 30 IMF projections showed increases consistent with a doubling of aid. Are the projections too conservative or are donors failing to live up to their commitments? Working paper author and CGD visiting fellow David Goldsbrough says of the IMF's projections: "don't shoot the messenger." He adds, however, that the IMF should be clearer about its assumptions concerning overall aid flows--and regularly publish consolidated aid projections. Read the blog and comment
