The Program Coordinator manages one to two active working groups under the Global Health Policy Research Network (GHPRN), supports senior staff in preparing other health policy documents and products, and helps promote the output of the GHPRN. The GHPRN provides economic and policy analysis on priority global health topics; and through its working groups, brings together diverse experts and stakeholders to address major finance and policy constraints in global health and social development programs. Specifically, the position requires someone with strong knowledge of policy issues pertaining to the global market for drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, and other global health products.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with conceptualization and design of CGD health policy and finance working groups by conducting background research, synthesizing ideas, and engaging in discussions with stakeholders
- Manages and coordinates workplans for multiple on-going projects, including interacting with consultants, managing stakeholder communications, and maintaining project extranet site.
- Organizes and attends meetings/conferences; conduct outreach with key stakeholders in policy, advocacy and research communities.
- Conducts basic analysis of data and policy indicators and prepares literature reviews for on-going research projects and programs.
- Track policy developments in relevant areas.
- Draft and edit communications and reports.
- Contribute to management of the Global Health blog at CGD.
- Provide other research, writing and editing support for various reports, documents and web content related to GHPRN projects.
- Undertake and/or oversee related administrative tasks.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Working Relationships:
- Internal: Incumbent works closely with rest of GHPRN team, including Vice President of Programs, Senior Program Associate, other Program Coordinators as well as other research, program and communications staff.
- External: Incumbent manages project consultants, interacts frequently with working group members and other high-level stakeholders and policy-makers, and field inquiries from the press and general public.
Minimum Work Requirements:
1. Knowledge:
- Knowledge of developing country contexts and the politics of international development assistance for health
- Familiarity with current issues in development economics, foreign policy and related topics
- Familiarity with data sources relevant to economic development and global health research
- Competence in quantitative research
2. Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in economics, public health or related field; advanced degree preferred but not required
- 2-3 years professional experience in the field of global health or international development
3. Skills and Abilities:
- Outstanding English-language communications and writing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team
- Initiative on new projects and flexibility to juggle changing and competing priorities
- Ability to maintain records with attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and comfort with basic information technology
