Senate Appropriations Committee Makes $2.6 billion Cut to International Affairs Budget

Daniel Inouye (D-HI), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today that $2.6 billion would be cut from the FY2011 State, Foreign Operations bill.  The House Appropriations Subcommittee previously cut $4 billion from the FY2011 international affairs budget.This international affairs cut is part of an overall $8 billion spending cap below President Obama’s FY2011 budget.  Chairman Inouye also trimmed $2.1 billion from the Defense budget request.Update: Chairman Inouye has lowered the spending cap by an additional $6 billion, with all of that amount coming from Defense programs.
