Weekend Reads: USAID Policy Framework and Strategies – New and Still in the Works

September 30, 2011

As I perused USAID’s new Policy Framework, I was struck by the number of references to other policy statements and strategies that are still in the works.  These are all good signs that the agency’s Policy, Planning and Learning Bureau is thinking hard about how to effectively implement principles in the PPD and QDDR.  And they are good tools for those of us on the outside to judge and nudge the administration to follow through with its stated objectives and strategies. So here are the strategies already released and the list of those yet to come.Published Strategies:

Planned Strategies for the Coming Year:
  • Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy
  • Global Climate Change and Development Strategy
  • Sustainable Services in a Rapidly Urbanizing World
  • Broad-Based Economic Growth
  • Donor Engagement Policy
  • Democracy, Rights, and Governance
  • Youth Policy
  • Partnerships for Growth (Ed. – Really?! Sorry…that’s a joke. But perhaps the administration could officially unveil PfG sometime soon?)

Have I missed any?  The USAID Monitor now has a one-stop shop page providing links to all the strategies that will be updated as new ones come out.  Happy reading.
