MCA Monitor: Burkina Faso Report from the Field

Burkina Faso became the first country to sign a threshold program with the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in 2005, and it became eligible for a full compact in 2006. The $480.9 million compact, signed in 2008, focuses on roads, agriculture, land tenure, and girls' education and was scheduled to enter into force in July 2009.

Burkina Faso is only the second country to make the transition from a threshold program to a full compact, but it is the 17th country to sign such a compact. It has clearly learned and benefitted from the experiences of those that came before.

This report from the field analyzes the performance of Burkina Faso so far and lays out next steps for the MCC and for Congress to carry the current momentum into compacts with other countries.
