MCA Monitor: Round Seven of the MCA: Which Countries Are Most Likely to Be Selected for FY2010?

November 25, 2009

The MCA Monitor team explores which countries it thinks the MCC Board will select to be eligible for compact assistance in fiscal year 2010. The seventeen indicators inform the board's decisions, but the data alone do not determine whether a country will be selected for eligibility. The availability of funding, the potential to spur economic growth and reduce poverty in a country, and a country’s previous performance (for those eligible for second compacts) all factor in. These factors add some intrigue to the selection and the team's predictions this year, as a new MCC CEO comes on board and as the corporation navigates budget uncertainty and the graduation of some countries to higher income brackets.
